Denice Carter

Denice Carter is trained and experienced at teaching Suzuki Violin. She provided a very successful program in Colorado for 22 years, and is now bringing her unique abilities to Portland! What makes Denice’s program so unique is her added expertise in fiddling education. Denice has participated in countless fiddle competitions and has served as a national and regional judge. She founded the Colorado Old Time Fiddle Association, for which she has served as President for the past 10 years.
Development of continuity between Suzuki classical music and Texas-style contest fiddling has been her focus for the past 22 years. Her methodology is based on Suzuki philosophies with added teaching points that incorporate fiddling technique. Since both styles rely on keen development of the ear for intonation development, her melding of the two ideas is presented to the learner in a way that makes perfect sense. Note reading is introduced once mastery of basic technique is established. Lessons are organized and structured to thoroughly cover all skills needed to become a well-rounded and proficient musician. Practice direction is clearly delivered to each student weekly through her self-developed “practice sheet system”. Nurturing the spirit of the student so as to develop desire and enjoyment is her forte. Students learn at their own pace, and are welcome to start as early as age 3. Listening and parent involvement are key to success for children age 12 and under. Her Suzuki program provides all of the components and activities needed for students to discover their talents and realize their full potential.
Incorporating the two styles allows the student to choose the musical direction they desire. Adult students enjoy the diversity and expert knowledge Denice brings to their lesson experience. Please visit www.denicecarter.com for more information about her program.
