Acoustic and electric guitar lessons are available for students of all levels and styles. Students as young as five years old can learn to play the guitar and adults of any age will get a lot of out of the lessons. Students are encouraged to bring in three of their favorite CDs for use in creating a lesson plan. Topics covered are: Tuning, Basic Reading Skills, Chord Strumming, Scales, Improvisation, Rhythm, Technique and Dexterity, and of course, Songs!! Guitar students are encouraged to have their own guitar to practice on, however there are guitars available for those who haven't purchased an instrument yet. Students are required to purchase a guitar tablature notebook.
 

There are two classes offered for Piano - Classical and Modern. Students are not required to stick to one or the other but can combine elements from both courses.
 

For students wanting to learn Classical piano, we teach beginner to intermediate level classes. Students learn reading, musicality, technique, and theory, along with learning many standard piano pieces. Emphasis is placed on sight-reading and basic skill development. Students are required to purchase a course book as well as a notebook with blank staff paper.
 

We teach beginning to advanced students who want to leaern to play Jazz, Blues, Rock, or Pop styles on the piano. Emphasis is placed on technique and theory as well as ear training. Note reading is also stressed in this course. Students are encouraged to bring in three of their favorite albums for use in the lesson plan. Students also need to bring a notebook with blank staff paper.
 

We teach electric bass lessons for students of all levels from beginners to working musicians looking to expand their knowledge of the instrument. Bass students learn theory and ear-training as well as technique, musicianship, and improvisation. Bass students do not need to bring an amp to the lessons but are required to bring their bass as well as several of their favorite CDs and a guitar cable.
 

Violin and Fiddle lessons are now being offered at Starfish Studios for beginning to advanced students. Our diverse teachers cover many different styles of music. Beginners are welcome as well as advanced students wanting to work on improvisation or learning new styles of music. Each teacher has a unique focus so call for more information.
 

We offer Drum lessons for students of all levels and styles. Students bring in several of their favorite CDs, which are used in all sticking and technique exercises. Students will work with the instructor on transcribing and learning the drum parts to their favorite songs. Students are required to purchase sticks and a practice pad but do not need a full set of drums for the first few months of lessons. Students also need to bring a blank music manuscript notebook. Starfish Studios now offers private cello lessons for beginning to intermediate students as well as advanced students wanting to learn to improvise. Our cello teachers have extensive performing and recording experience and can work with students of all levels and musical tastes.
 

We offer lessons for alto, tenor, baritone, and soprano saxophone. Lessons range from basic reading and technique to advanced improvisation. Students of all levels from beginners to advanced students are welcome.
 

Mandolin lessons are available for students looking to improve their skills on this fun instrument. Students are encouraged to purchase a tuner and strap for their mandolin.
 

Private music theory classes are perfect for anyone wishing to expand their understanding of music. Basic concepts covered include keys and scales, ear-training, advanced rhythm, harmony, modulation, composition, and arranging. Students taking private lessons on any instrument can request a music theory cirriculum as part of their education.
 

Emphasis on tone and improvisation are a big part of the harmonica lessons.
 

Our ukulele lessons incorporate ear training and solfege, and understanding of the major scale, chords and their progressions, learning different strumming and picking techniques, and, of course, playing songs right away! Music genres include children's songs, folk, early jazz and jug band, blues and some Hawaiian.
 

For banjo students, all styles of bluegrass playing are taught with an emphasis on playing by ear and learning to play with other musicians.
